School of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences

Associate Degree in Laboratory Technology

This program prepares students to be able to be entry level Medical laboratory technicians. Specifically, students will be able to carry out precise tests and procedures to ensure accurate information for patient diagnosis.   Additionally, technicians will be able to perform pre-transfusion tests, examine blood components, isolate and identify microorganisms, analyze bodily fluids, and discover disease-related immune responses.

Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

This program prepares students to be qualified as an entry level sonographer. Sonographers use cutting-edge ultrasound technology to generate detailed internal images of the body, which doctors can then use to identify and monitor diseases. At the end of this program, students will be given the opportunity to sit the RDMS  (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) exam. The RDMS credential  is designed to certify competence in the field of diagnostic medical sonography.

Curriculum

In addition to the science classes that will teach you about the human body, you will also learn how to use and interpret sonographic imagery, how to follow regulatory requirements, and ways to communicate with patients in an effective manner. 

Bachelor of Pharmacy

The degree provides students with a thorough understanding of how medicines work, how the body works, and the effect medicines have  on human anatomy and physiology. Students will also gain knowledge about what pharmacists do and  how comprehensive care is provided as a pharmacist.

School of Nursing

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The School of Nursing prepares nurses to deliver holistic  nursing care to individuals, families and comminities. The programs under the School of Nursing provide students with evidenced based practices and sound clinical and functional judgment essential for the nursing field.

Curriculum

The curriculum is adopted from the Registered Nursing Education Programme for Nursing in CARICOM countries to prepare professional nurses who0 are visionary, possess leadership skills and have the necessary competencies to support the evolving health care system. The curriculum comprises content areas from biological, behavioral and nursing sciences as well as courses from the liberal education program.

Bachelor of Science in Midwifery

For those who want to become registered midwives and work in maternity settings like hospitals, birth centers, and other community agencies, St. Joseph University is offering the Bachelor of Midwifery program. You will learn how to manage a typical pregnancy and delivery in this midwifery course.

English as a Second Language  Program

The  English as a Second Language Program is excellent for foreigners / non- native speakers learning English to acquire and develop the English language knowledge and skills. Students will apply practical and theoretical skills reading, listening, speaking, and writing, to equip them to effectively function in any English- speaking society.

School of Environmental Studies

Bachelor of  Science in Marine Biology

During the Marine Biology course, students will learn marine biology and interactions with the environment. With a degree in Marine Biology,graduates are prepared for employment as horticulturists, microbiologists, marine biologists, environmental scientists, resource management, climate consulting, or nature conservation and ecologists.

Students in our program will build solid business writing and verbal communication skills that are suitable to their field, as well as build awareness of the sports management sector through practical experience and field experiences. Associates Degree in Hospitality Management

The associate degree program in Hospitality Management at SJU covers the fundamentals of the industry, such as room division, food and beverage, and travel and tourism, with a focus on communication skills. It is strongly advised that graduates pursue a bachelor’s degree in hospitality in order to progress in the field.

Curriculum

Customer relations, restaurant or lodging management, and basic accounting principles are all necessary for success in the hospitality industry.

Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts

The Bachelor degree in Culinary Arts is a roadmap for students who are passionate about food and food  service. Students will be given the opportunity to learn  about food preparation and artistic presentation of food. This will enable students to be equipped  for a career as an entry-level line cook, institutional foodservice operations, hotel food service, private and commercial catering procedures, or foodservice for schools and communities.

Curriculum

Training encompasses all aspects of cooking, from knife skills to the production of all restaurant services, with an emphasis on robust culinary techniques and basic baking for the culinary specialist.

The  bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management equips students with the extensive knowledge and skills required for career paths in management in the hospitality sector. Students have the option to focus in culinary management or tourism and destination management.
